REPENTANCE

Is there hope of finding refuge?

Has no ark as yet been built

To save us from the coming deluge?

A shield to break the blade at hilt?

Will rains allay the conflagration

Lest it char our cherished town?

Must we lose our noble nation

To careless follies of our own?

Is there not a God above us?

Has He left us to our fate?

Is there no one left to love us?

Is repentance now too late?

There is but for us to turn

From our plunders in the past

Never more to waste and spurn

A single fragment of the clast.

And perhaps with wisdom’s sorrow

We’ll in sorrow see the path

To a merciful tomorrow

And dissuade the coming Wrath.
